Do You Use Job Posting Aggregators?

If you are in third party recruiting and have the need for job posting leads, or you are in human resources and need to do some competitive intelligence or research I imagine the first thing most do is go the the large national job boards. And that would be a great start to accomplishing your task.

But...there is a better way.

Free Webinar - Friday 3/12 - Noon Central - ResumeGrabber Suite

Tomorrow, Friday 3/12 at noon central time I will be presenting an introduction to a new product by eGrabber, their ResumeGrabber Suite.

Before the product demonstration I will offer some information on a couple different types of Google search techniques including an intitle/inurl search with location and area code components, and a site search example using LinkedIn.

ResumeGrabber Suite automatically finds, imports, screens and transfers resumes from Google to your database. In a fraction of the time it would take to perform these functions manually.

Using Site Searches to Find Company Staff/Employees

I talk often about the SITE search technique. For those who don't know it is one of the many advanced commands sourcers can use to locate recruiting resources using the search engines. For those of you that regularly use the Internet for sourcing candidate it is an underutilized, yet extremely productive technique, and one it would behoove most of you to become familiar with. It easy to use. Here is an example:

Search String Checklist - Check Your Work!

The checklist below is simple. I am often asked to troubleshoot search strings that aren’t doing what they are supposed to do. I can’t give an exact percentage but it is safe to say that the vast majority of the strings would work fine but have errors that are easily overlooked.

Next time you are in the search engine ready to run your string go through the checklist below and get the results you are looking for.

Common errors are:

Forgetting to close quote marks for phrases and parenthesis for OR components. Not doing so will change the entire complexion of your string.

Ramblings of an Internet Resume Sourcer

Fact is...as any accomplished Internet sourcer will tell you, sourcing resumes is just a small part of what you can do to gather resources for your open assignments on the Internet. Having said that, many people do like to start with resume sourcing. It is more fun than basic research, which I sometimes call name or lead generation. It is less tedious at times, plus, you have a much better feel for whether the resource is a match for your assignment, as you get to see the employment history and education, not simply a name and number or email address in some specific context.

Google Dashboard - Take Control

Do you have a Google account? Chances are if you use any Google offering including (but not limited to) gmail, profiles, web history, contacts, youtube, checkout, docs, calendar, igoogle, picasa web, and/or talk...you do.

Unknown to some is the fact that Google keeps usage and data statistics on you. They probably know a lot more about you that you think, or might be comfortable with.

Number Range (Zip Code) Searches in Google (aka Numrange)

All the major search engines offer us an array of advanced features we can use under certain circumstances to zero in on the type of data we are seeking. One lesser known and surely under utilized technique that Google offers us is the ability to do a number range search. They call it numrange. Unfortunately this only works in Google and not Live or Yahoo at this time.
